Woods - "New Light" Video

VIDEO: "New Light" (Dir. by John Andrews) - YouTube

Woods' brand of pop shamanism has undergone several gradual transformations over their past few albums, but on With Light And With Love, the tinkering reveals an expanded sonic palette that includes singing saw, heavier emphasis on percussion, and a saloon piano that sounds like it was rescued from a flooded basement. Distinct from both the stoned volk of their earliest recordings and the Kraut-y dalliances of more recent fare, With Light And With Love showcases a more sophisticated brand of contemporary drug music that owes more to Magical Mystery Tour than motorik. If you've ever thought of Woods as a pop group comprised of weirdos, or a weirdo band that happens to excel at playing pop songs almost in spite of itself, With Light And With Love provides a corrective in the form of songs that show these two elements as natural, inextricable bedfellows. Throughout the album, vocals are frequently emitted through Leslie speakers and guitars perform one-string ragas like Sandy Bull reared on shoegaze and skate videos. With Light And With Love is an album of deeply psychedelic, deeply satisfying songs for a new age of searchers, of Don Juan and Animal Chin alike. - James Toth

Saint Pepsi Shares New Video

WATCH: "Fiona Coyne" - http://youtu.be/Bw_7UrqzNUg

Following last week's release of his new single "Fiona Coyne," Saint Pepsi is back today to share the track's appropriately lovelorn video. The Matt Walker-directed video has the teenage feel of Degrassi, which is appropriate considering the origin of the song's title comes from one of the show's characters. Check out the video along with a stream of the track above and see below for more info on Saint Pepsi's forthcoming 7".

--

For his Carpark debut, Saint Pepsi takes a step away from the more genre-shuffling styles of his Internet releases to focus his skills on high-power pop. The title track of the "Fiona Coyne" 7-inch is an uplifting tribute to fantastical romance and the joyous dreams pop culture can provide. Mastermind Ryan DeRobertis lays down a funky guitar riff and bass line of Chic-quality to tease our senses before tickling us silly with the chorus' ecstatic horns. "My love's on the silver screen/ she's always playing make believe," sings the 21-year-old songwriter, playing a bit of make-believe himself. The song, named after a certain graduate of Degrassi Community School, acts out the fantasy of dating a TV star and plays with the idea that music can be something of a catalyst for romance.

The b-side, "Fall Harder," is a lovelorn hit about a somewhat unattainable beauty. "You've got me under your spell/ and baby, I couldn't fall harder," DeRobertis sings over an Orange Juice-worthy riff and electronic subtleties like the sound of a Galaga battle. For this 7-inch, DeRobertis wrote danceable love songs with a nostalgic aesthetic to the production "because I think nostalgia is inherently narcissistic and I'm currently very into the idea of exploring the connection between nostalgia and narcissism," he says.

Army Navy - "The Wilderness Inside"

Los Angeles-based indie-pop band Army Navy is pleased to announce the release of their brand new full-length album titled The Wilderness Inside. Produced by longtime friend and notable producerAdam Lasus at Fireproof Recording and released today through the band's own label, The Fever ZoneThe Wilderness Inside expands on the band's signature, sparkling guitar-driven power-pop complimented by frontman Justin Kennedy's wounded lyrics.

Army Navy released its highly acclaimed self-titled debut full-length on their own label, The Fever Zone, in late 2008, an album Pitchfork declared a "bubbly effervescent valentine to obscure power pop bands of the late-1970s and early-'80s" in their 7.8 review, and what NPR described as "a Posies-and-Teenage Fanclub-style tsunami of melody and distortion that underscores the youthful essence of power-pop in all its bittersweet glory."

In June 2011, the band released their sophomore album titled The Last Place via eMusic's "Selects" program, a coveted spotlight that featured and offered The Last Place to eMusic.com's subscribers exclusively for an entire month. During its exclusivity, eMusic went on to describe The Last Place as "a poisoned Valentine dripping with equal parts beauty and scorn; imagine a Vulcan mind-meld between Teenage Fanclub's Bandwagonesque and Marvin Gaye's Here, My Dear and you're there."SPIN also went on to call The Last Place "a feel-bad record you can actually feel good about" in their 8-out-of-10 album review. Since the release of The Last Place, Army Navy has been touring both coasts of the U.S., sharing the stage with bands such as Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, The Features and others.

With the release of The Wilderness Inside, Army Navy will be making more live appearances throughout 2014. Tour dates to be announced soon.
